Course Description:

Though counselors may have some training in sexuality counseling, there is a need for continuing education and deeper training in this important area. This training provides an overview of several main areas of sexuality: Couples in Crisis; Sex Therapy for Couples; Sexual Addiction; Sexual Abuse and Trauma. This training also provides an overview of the challenges and appropriate interventions for couples and individuals presenting with these issues.

  1. Couples in Crisis
    1. Assessment for crisis issues: conflict, commitment, infidelity and affairs, domestic violence, etc.
    2. Overall couples assessment
    3. Early counseling for couples in crisis
    4. Specific interventions/treatment/counseling for couples in crisis
    5. The process of healing
    6. Self-of-counselor: your own background that influences your work dealing with these types of issues
  2. Sex Therapy for Couples
    1. Common sexual issues for couples
    2. Understanding sexual dysfunction
    3. Assessment of sexual issues
    4. Addressing common challenges
    5. Interventions/treatment/counseling for sexual issues in marriage
  3. Sexual Addiction
    1. Definitions
    2. Assessment
    3. Pillars of Treatment
    4. Couples therapy for sexual addiction
  4. Sexual Abuse and Trauma
    1. Definitions
    2. Assessment
    3. Interventions/treatment/counseling for sexual abuse and trauma
    4. Couples therapy for sexual abuse and trauma

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. List 5 areas of assessment and correlated interventions for couples in crisis.
2. Analyze the sexual challenges for couples and apply 3 interventions to these identified challenges.
3. Identify 5 areas of treatment for sexual addiction.
4. Describe the relevant factors in sexual abuse and trauma and the correlated interventions.

Every state Board of Nursing accepts ANCC approved programs except California and Iowa, however CES is also an approved Continuing Education provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider # CEP15567) which is also accepted by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
